Frequently asked questions
What is functional medicine?
Functional medicine is an individualized, patient-centered, science-based approach that empowers patients and practitioners to work together to address the underlying causes of disease and promote optimal wellness. It asks, "why did you develop this condition?". It requires a detailed understanding of each client’s genetic, biochemical, and lifestyle factors and leverages that data to direct personalized treatment plans that lead to improved patient outcomes. At Bloom Total Wellness, functional nutrition is the cornerstone of our approach, focusing on whole, nutritious foods and lifestyle changes to support your body's natural healing processes.
Do you prescribe weight loss shots like Ozempic and Mounjaro?
We do not prescribe prescription diet medications, including weight-loss shots like Ozempic and Mounjaro. We prioritize a holistic approach to weight loss, focusing on whole foods and lifestyle changes. If you have recently discontinued these medications, we are happy to help support your weight-loss journey. If you have been prescribed these medications by your doctor, we can help you maximize your results.
Do you take insurance?
No, insurance typically does not cover functional medicine, wellness services, or disease prevention. You are welcome to ask your insurer if health coaching and our services are covered. However, there is no guarantee they will be covered, and we do not handle authorizations or file insurance claims of any kind.
Does this replace my doctor?
No. This does not replace your doctor and is not a medical weight-loss program. This is a lifestyle coaching program designed to educate and empower you to take control of your own health. It is not a substitute for medical care from your physician. We do not provide medical diagnosis or treatment, or medication recommendations. We offer lifestyle suggestions designed to complement your overall health plan, not replace it. We encourage you to continue regular visits with your doctor and consult them for any medical concerns or conditions.
Will I need to follow a strict diet forever?
While there is a short-term elimination phase, our approach is about sustainable lifestyle changes, not restrictive diets, ensuring long-term satisfaction and health.
How is this different?
One of the core goals of Bloom Total Wellness is to help individuals break the cycle of yo-yo dieting by implementing sustainable lifestyle and dietary changes. Our program is designed to help you understand and address the underlying causes of weight fluctuations, ensuring you can achieve and maintain your health goals over the long term. Our personalized, holistic strategies consider unique genetic and lifestyle factors, offering a fresh, tailored pathway to success and lasting change.
Will this work if I have had bariatric surgery?
Yes, our program is designed to support individuals regardless of their surgical history, including those who have undergone gastric sleeve or gastric bypass surgery at least 12 months ago. We focus on sustainable lifestyle changes and holistic nutrition that complement your surgical weight loss, helping you maintain your results and improve your overall health. It's important to have a personalized plan that takes into account your unique needs post-surgery, and we're committed to providing that.
What if I have allergies or food sensitivities?
Part of our initial assessment includes understanding any food sensitivities or allergies you may have. We believe in personalized nutrition, which means recommendations will be tailored to avoid triggers and include foods that nourish and support your body. At times, we may recommend food sensitivity testing to allow you to further customize your eating plan.
Will I see quick results?
You may start to see results quickly, but our approach ensures sustainable progress, not quick fixes, aligning with your body's natural pace for lasting success.
Do you offer dietitian services?
No, Bloom Total Wellness does not provide dietitian services. Coaches have training in nutritional coaching, and offer guidance on food and lifestyle choices to support your wellness goals. However, these services are not meant to replace personalized advice from a registered dietitian. If you require specialized dietary planning, particularly for medical conditions or detailed nutritional needs, we recommend consulting with a registered dietitian.
